Tour of Torrens Island
Quarantine Station
This is your rare chance to breach quarantine! The
Quarantine Station has stood in chilling isolation on Torrens
Island since 1880 when it was built to stop passengers
bringing small pox to Adelaide. The tour will lead you through
the landing and decontamination area, the isolation
hospital, morgue and graveyard. Visitors will be transported
from the Maritime Museum by bus and the tour will be
led by museum curators and archaeologists. You need to
be reasonably fit to participate in this tour, and dressed
appropriate for a bush walk.

Historic Harbour
Tour
Experience history on the water aboard the SA Maritime
Museum’s heritage vessel - ST
Yelta
. This tour explores the
fascinating heritage of the harbour from the deck of one of
Port Adelaide’s favourite maritime identities.
The ST
Yelta
is a unique vessel built in 1949 and after 27 years
of towing vessels in and out of Port Adelaide,
Yelta
retired
as the state’s last fully operational steam tug. It was restored
to its former glory by an army of skilled volunteers and today
Yelta
is once again a familiar sight at the Port. This tour will
take guests on an evocative journey past historic wharves,
sheds, factories and the rarely seen workings of harbour-side
industries.
