Welcome to the fifth Port Festival as the City of

Port Adelaide Enfield celebrates its 175th anniversary –

making 2015 most definitely the ‘Year of the Port’.

This year’s Festival is brimming with new ideas and

new features as we set out to broaden the appeal of

Adelaide’s biggest and most successful celebration of

community arts and culture.

We’ve always had a strong sense of our local culture and

identity, which this year is reflected in our Festival theme –

Message in a Bottle, providing a wide variety

of opportunities for artistic interpretation.

We’ve brought in local schools whose students have

created a stunning series of super-size bottles, while we’ll

be sending our own message in an equally gigantic bottle

direct to the United Nations as part of its 70th birthday

celebrations – a wonderful and innovative way to draw

attention to our City.

With Port Adelaide undergoing major regeneration,

the Festival is a tremendous opportunity for us to build

community awareness of what’s happening and all that

the entire region has to offer. It’s also our way of supporting

a growing and highly valued arts community that adds so

much to our sense of belonging and place.

Creating festivals requires a great deal of commitment and

hard work and I congratulate the Festival and Council staff

who’ve brought it all together again this year, and on your

behalf I thank the artistic and business communities of our

City for their continued support of the Port Festival.
