Puppet Festival

Celebrate the rich and ancient art of puppetry. The Puppet
Festival presents exciting and stimulating family friendly
puppet shows from leading companies from Melbourne,
New Zealand and South Australia.
Puppet Exhibition (SA/VIC)
Come and have a close-up look at a variety of puppets
on display. Hand-made by Australian puppet-maker,
Chris Van der Craats, as well as a variety of puppets made
here and overseas. This display will feature hand-puppets,
bunraku (rod) puppets, tabletop, marionettes, shadow
puppets and a variety of delightful characters.
Puppetry Workshop: Bunraku-style -
Sue Harris Puppets (SA)
Take part in a special hands-on workshop with acclaimed
“Puppeteer Maestro” Sue Harris. Learn about the
famous Japanese Bunraku puppetry method and how
to manipulate the puppets (three people per puppet)
plus using props with the puppets. Enjoy a mini-Bunraku
performance and a traditional Japanese story.
All ages.15 persons per workshop. Held throughout the day.
No materials required. Each workshop runs for 30 minutes.
Professor Whatsit (VIC)
Enjoy a variety of short traditional puppet shows and
entertainments by Professor Whatsit, Master-Puppetmaker.
Professor Whatsit brings old style puppets together with his
barrel organ, dancing puppets and variety of famous
puppet scenes from Guignol (France), Jan Klaasen
(The Netherlands) and Punch (England). 20 minute show.
