As Chair of the Western Region Waste Management
Authority (WRWMA) I am please to report that it has
been another very productive year. Despite some
delays with the delivery of suitable topsoil material to
the site we remain on track to complete the
rehabilitation works ahead of schedule.
Leed Engineering has continued with the capping
works program and has now received all the required
topsoil onsite. It is anticipated that final revegetation
works will be carried out in spring 2012 and Leed are
expecting to seek practical completion by early
November 2012. This will be a major milestone for
WRWMA and well ahead of the June 2013 deadline.
Landfill Gas Monitoring (LFG) has continued to be
undertaken by Tonkin Consulting. Additional LFG
monitoring was undertaken over the 2011/2012
summer months at the request of the Environmental
Protection Authority to determine if there were any
seasonal impacts of the performance of the cap. This
monitoring has reconfirmed early monitoring results
that the cap is performing well and limited landfill gas
is detectable at the surface of the cap. The results
reconfirmed that presence of gas around the site
boundaries.
The Audit Committee comprising of Mr Bill Ross
(Chair), Cr Mikki Bouchee, Cr Peter Jamieson and Mr
Peter Brass (Independent Member) held a number of
scheduled meetings. This Committee has continued to
ensure that the WRWMA Risk Management Plan is up
to date and has continued to monitor the financial
position of the WRWMA.
The Environment Committee has met on a quarterly
basis and have been well attended by representatives
from WRWMA, the Urban Renewal Authority
(formally the Land Management Corporation),
Environment Protection Authority, Tonkin Consulting
and Leed Engineering.
The WRWMA Board met on a scheduled
quarterly basis.
I would like to thank my fellow Board Members for
their work during the year and acknowledge the great
support provided by the Management, Finance and
Administration teams of the staff at the City of Charles
Sturt, and the Manager for WRWMA Adrian Sykes.

Region Waste Management Authority to you.
