TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL.
Gentlemen,
It is my privilege and pleasure to present a resume
of the main activities of the Council for the year ending
30th June, 1936, together with the statistical reports of
the various departments.
Those who take pride in their city must realise
the improvement during the past few year.s, and credit
is due to the diligence and services rendered by mem
bers of the Council.
HIS MAJESTY THE KING.
It is with profound regret that I refer to the death
of His Most Gracious Majesty, King George V,(ju the
21st January, 1936, after a glorious reign. On behalf of
the citizens, expressions of profound grief were con
veyed to the Royal Family through His Excellency the
Governor, Sir Winston Dugan. We also expressed devo
tion and loyalty to the throne and person of Flis Majesty,
King Edward VHI,and sincerely trust that he will have
a Ic^ng and successful reign.
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
News of the appointment of Lord Gowrie, who as
Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven was a former Governor of
^is State, to the high office of Governor-General of the
Commonwealth was received with pleasure by all those
who w'cre associated with him in South Australia. The
Council's congratulations were duly conveA'ed to Lord
Gowrie.
