Headlining the 2011 Port Festival is
Port Inhabited
: two nights of
extraordinary animated building projection depicting the rich
stories of Port Adelaide.
The stunning colonial buildings of Lipson Street will come alive
in animated imagery and soundscape that will transform this
renowned heritage environment into a kaleidoscope of form,
colour and movement.
The Illuminart creative team, led by renowned multimedia artist
Cindi Drennan, specialises in
architectural storytelling
. Cindi
explains. “We use motion graphics to reveal and illuminate the
stories and heritage hidden beneath each building’s surface”.
Port Inhabited takes inspiration from its inimitable host
community, describing the past and present life of Port
Adelaide. Local residents have shared yarns, tales and
anecdotes of the Port, which will be represented along
the street on this urban canvas. Discover the colourful tales
including
Tall Ships, King Tides; Tragedies; Chandlers and
Traders; Secret Tunnels and the first Electric Light
. Animations
interweave traditional Kaurna stories, tales of life in “Port
Misery”, through to community visions of the future Port
Adelaide. Intriguing characters will weave their way in and out
of these stories, including the famous Port River dolphins.
2011 marks the175th anniversary of European Settlement in
South Australia. Come celebrate this milestone and share in the
rich and colourful history of Port Adelaide, through evocative
narratives presented on a grand and wondrous scale.
