Rekindling + Kurruru Showcase

Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander Art and
City of Port Adelaide Enfield
Kurruru will present the ‘Welcome to Country’
and a traditional dance performance
lead by Karl Telfer of Paitya Dance Troupe
performing with Kurruru’s Binnanendi Boys
Traditional Dance Troupe. Audiences will
have the opportunity to
learn some traditional Aboriginal dance
steps with our dancers.
Kurruru will also present Rekindling -
a national cultural dance program
delivered by Bangarra Dance Theatre’s
Youth Program to Adelaide Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander secondary students in
early 2015. This remarkable program and
performance is based on young people
learning and connecting with their culture
and providing them with the knowledge
and skills to develop strong positive identities
and to be proud of sharing this with others.
Kurruru Youth Performing Arts is one of
Australia’s leading Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander Youth Performing Arts programs
operated by Kura Yerlo Inc. It is committed to
supporting the ongoing maintenance of culture,
community and identity through the provision of
quality performing arts opportunities for children,
young people and their communities.
