This year 41 citizens from 11 countries were presented
with Citizenship Certificates by Mayor Johanson.
Following the Citizenship Ceremony, the Mayor presented
the City of Port Adelaide Enfield Australia Day Awards
along with the Service to the Community Awards.
Recipients and their families and friends then enjoyed an
Aussie BBQ to celebrate the occasion.
Citizen of the Year: Jodie Barratt
Jodie gives freely and generously of her time to support
community groups and organisations. Over the years
Jodie has worked tirelessly for the Port Adelaide Netball
Association, the Port Adelaide Hockey Club, the Port
Adelaide Cricket Club and has been a long time member
of various environmental groups. Her dedication and
diversity has seen her running club canteens, assisting with
club administration, creating websites, coaching netball
and hockey and taking on team manager roles
Young Citizens of the Year
Lucky Giirre:
An inspirational young lady, Lucky recently
attended the International Youth Leadership Conference
in Prague and has been awarded the Multicultural Youth
Award for an individual in 2011. Lucky dedicates much
of her time to working with refugees and young Muslim
women to assist them to make a successful transition into
Australian society. Lucky co-founded the Muslim Girls
Kollective of South Australia, a grass roots initiative that
has created and delivered workshops, social and group
activities, taught basic life skills, educational pathways and
shows how to deal with social isolation and identity issues
for young Muslim and refugee women.
Ramla Giirre:
Ramla recently attend the International
Youth Leadership Conference in Prague and was awarded
the South Australian Governor’s Multicultural Youth
Award in 2012. Ramla is co-founder of the Muslim Girls
Kollective of South Australia which aims to target and
reduce the concerns of isolation and mental health issues
affecting at risk Muslim and refugee young women. Ramla
works to empower and teach young Muslim women how
to access mainstream services and show them how thwy
can achieve achieve anything they put their mind to.
Community Event of the Year: OC Challenge Walkathon
Debbie Gracie founded the OC Challenge in 2005 to raise
awareness of ovarian cancer in South Australia. Now in its
7th year, all money raised by the annual walkathon goes
directly to the Royal Adelaide Hospital Research Fund
to provide psychological support for women diagnosed
with ovarian cancer. Debbie’s inspirational leadership
and dedication to the cause has seen the event grow
every year, raising awareness of the disease and providing
financial assistance to sufferers and their families.

Jean Binnington, Catherine Cooke, Joyce Crick,
Mary Crisp, John Ford, Debbie Gracie, Holden Hill Blue
Light Rangers, Carole Malinda, Andrew Plumb and
Keith Ridgeway.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield Australia Day Award presentations were held in conjunction
with a Citizenship Ceremony in January this year, with around 250 guests attending the
function at Sunnybrae Function Centre.
