The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is located in the
north-western region of Adelaide, South Australia,
extending from the River Torrens in the east of the City
to Outer Harbour in the west.
The City incorporates extensive residential, commercial
and industrial areas, covering an area of approximately
91.7 square kilometres, making it one of the largest
metropolitan Councils within South Australia.
Port Adelaide Enfield has a large and culturally diverse
population. At the 2006 Census, the City of Port Adelaide
Enfield encompassed a resident population of around
103,000. It continues to be a developing area, with
major urban development and renewal projects including
Westwood, Northgate, and Port Waterfront. This will
result in the anticipated construction of around 7,000 new
dwellings over the next 10 years. Significant industrial
development is also anticipated on the Northern Lefevre
Peninsula and at Gillman.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield plays a major role in
the State’s economy, with 30% of Adelaide’s industrial
land and 20% of Adelaide’s industrial output, as well as
accommodating 70% of Adelaide’s transport industry
sites. The area provides jobs for over 44,000 people.
Port Adelaide Enfield is also home to a number of
historically and environmentally significant areas such as
the Dolphin Sanctuary, Biodiversity Park, Barker Inlet, the
Port Adelaide River, the Gillman Wetlands, and Dry Creek
and River Torrens Linear Park.
The City boasts vibrant, creative and cultural activities.
A number of festivals and events provide both the
local community and its many visitors with the opportunity
to get together and celebrate the area’s unique heritage
and identity.
