Commercial and Industrial Waste
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield also offers the standard garbage and recycling
collection service to its commercial ratepayers.
The number of commercial businesses provided with a garbage collection service
is estimated at 3,000. There is limited information available on the types of waste
generated by business and the diversion of commercial and industrial waste to
landfill.
Zero Waste conduct landfill surveys to measure waste output, and breakdown of
types of waste.

Since 2004, the City of Port Adelaide Enfield has reduced the weight of industrial
and commercial waste going to landfill by 1342 tonnes, and reduced its overall
LGA waste contribution by 14 percent. All other Councils also reduced their
waste stream weight since 2004 except for City of Adelaide, which increased by
167 tonnes. This may be due to the high level of urban densification and
population increase that has occurred in the CBD since 2004.
As shown in Table 11, Port Adelaide Enfield ranks highest in commercial and
industrial waste generation, a reflection of the large local commercial and
industrial sector.
