Through the Commonwealth
Government’s Smart Cities and Suburbs
Program we are using smart sensor
technology to help us to make ours a truly
livable, modern and Smart City.
Fifteen bin level sensors have been installed
on street litter bins along a section of Lady
Gowrie Drive.The sensors allow the driver,
with the use of a tablet device, to identify
bins that require emptying, and to eliminate
the need for unnecessary stops at bins that
don’t. Sensors on bins on Largs Bay and
Semaphore Jetty also reduces unnecessary
trips down the jetties to bring the bins
to the truck for emptying.This sensor
technology will improve our efficiency in
waste management, by reducing both costs
and carbon emissions, and improving safety
for drivers and pedestrians.
Other sensors at Hart’s Mill in Port
Adelaide and Thomas Turner Reserve in
ValleyView gather information about heat
retention and ground temperature at
playgrounds. The data provides information
for our shading and open space policies
and will ultimately help us improve
experiences for you.
Further sensors at Thomas Turner Reserve
monitor car park usage, and will help us
assess the future need for parking spaces
and other resources at this popular
community facility.
The possibilities for future use throughout
PAE are endless, and the data we gather
using smart sensors will equip us to make
sound policy and program decisions for
your community needs.
