A GLOBAL FEAST FOR THE
SENSES
Over 2,000 people from all over the world gathered in April to
share their food, recipes and stories at our Food@5085 event,
as part of the Tasting Australia program, and also bringing to life
PAE’s Welcoming Cities commitments.
Eager foodies sampled the new and traditional flavours of some
of our newly arrived communities in a relaxed setting in stunning
Stockade Park. The event featured shared tables, food tastings
and produce stalls and food trucks offering delicious food from
Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Tibet, Albania, Egypt, Syria, East Turkistan,
Malaysia, Russia, Persia, Somalia and Pakistan.
They discovered the origins of dishes including authentic Iranian
egg and herb kuku sabzi, classic cheese and mince pies from
Bosnia, traditional dumplings from Tibet, Malaysian spiced
beefsteak and mango salad, and the spectacular Uyghur fried
bread, with lively hands-on cooking demonstrations with
celebrity chef and food advocate Rosa Matto.
Guests were entertained throughout the afternoon by the
colourful Burundian drumming group, young Albanian folk
dancers, Iraqi/Khaliji east - west fusion band Sound of the South,
and Zulya and the Children of the Underground’s haunting music
reflecting Zulya’s Tatar and Russian heritage.
Market stalls offered Persian, Tanzanian and Russian crafts,
groceries and cakes, and children enjoyed playing with the
imagination playground, face painting, and interactive mandala art
using recycled materials. The event also featured the Our Shared
Table exhibition from Uniting SA.
CLEAN UP YOUR COMMUNITY
Most people know that if not disposed of correctly, waste items
make their way through our stormwater systems and end up in
the ocean. We are working with KESAB and project sponsor
ATCO to encourage individuals, schools, community groups,
faith-based organisations and businesses to get involved in waste
collection. We are calling for the community to conduct clean-
ups in local streets and suburbs to reduce the overall amount of
waste that makes its way into our beaches and waterways; and
there are some great benefits for being involved. The activity is
Centrelink approved meaning it is suitable for those who have
volunteering obligations. Businesses will receive acknowledgment
for their efforts with a certificate and recognition online.
We need volunteer teams active in all areas of Council, to adopt
a local spot and take care of an area as either a one off or on an
ongoing basis. Collection dates are scheduled from July through
to the end of the year. To register, contact KESAB on 8234 7255
or by email at

SPACES IN PAE
Open spaces are valuable places for our community. They
provide places for sports, recreation and other social interactions
that support the overall health and wellbeing of our community,
as well as protecting our environment.
That is why we are committed to ensuring that we provide good
quality open spaces across our council area. Our current Open
Space Strategy (2013) identifies direction and actions to guide the
provision and development of parks, gardens, ovals and reserves
across the council region. This document is now due to be
reviewed, and we want to make sure that our open spaces meets
the current and future needs of our community.
Get involved and have your say on how we can plan, design,
develop and manage these spaces in future. We will be asking for
your feedback during June 2019, and more information can be
