COMMUNITY COMES

TOGETHER IN KILBURN

Our four Community development officers have been out

and about in Kilburn and Blair Athol working with the local

community to plan and deliver programs and opportunities.

They also collaborate with other community organisations to

offer further community involvement and support through

these partnerships.

One popular project is Welcome to our Butterfly Garden, which

was launched in May with support from the New Dawn Christian

Church and the Kilburn Neighbourhood Watch SA, as part of

the Bringing Back the Butterflies project with the Australian

Association for Environmental Education SA. Locals can watch

the butterflies flutter by in a special garden built in the front of

the Centre, where native shrubs and trees have been planted to

attract butterfly species common to the area.

PAE has also partnered with the Anti-Poverty Network and a

Kilburn Community Centre volunteer for Community

Cook-ups, designed for people on low incomes or who find

it hard to cook for one person. People gather on the second

Monday of the month to cook and eat a meal together, with any

leftovers taken home to put in the freezer for later.

Contact Tammy or Claudia on 8451 1589 or email

GET SNAPPINGWITH THE PORT

ADELAIDE CAMERA CLUB

PAE is full of scenic spots, from the lush green spaces around

the River Torrens, to the historic buildings of the Port and

picturesque sunsets along the coast. With such unique landscapes

and subjects, it’s no wonder there are more people in the area

becoming interested in amateur photography.

The Port Adelaide Camera Club was established in 1956 to

enable enthusiasts to enjoy photography with friends. Members

range from beginners to professional photographers, all eager

to share, support and encourage each other through workshops,

outings and competitions.

The club holds regular Snap-a-thon competitions, open to

members and non-members alike, each with a different theme

that entrants must embrace over a three hour period on a

given day.

Take your photography to the next level with the help of new

friends. The club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each

month at the Maritime Union of Australia Hall.

BUILD A BRILLIANT RESUME

A well written and presented resume is often the first interaction

employers have with their prospective employees.

PAE Libraries can provide assistance with writing a resume and

learning how to be successful in finding employment.

Asif, a local resident, used a Resume Help session recently and

said that Library staff thoroughly reviewed his CV and cover

letter and suggested strategies to get the recruiters’ attention.

He highly recommends people to attend CV review sessions at

PAE Libraries, and said that the library team has a genuine

desire and vigilant approach to helping clients in landing their

dream jobs.

A drop in session is available at the Parks from 10.30–11.30am

each Friday and a bookable session is available at Port Adelaide

Library from 12.30–1.30pm on Wednesdays.
