SEE THE SHOWCASE

COLLECTION

The Semaphore Library will soon have a Showcase Collection.

It will feature new items each month, provide an expanded Grab

and Go collection, and highlight individual selections including

authors and genres. For ease of viewing this new collection

and others, new shelving is being installed that will double the

number of items displayed with the cover showing, to make

them easier to find.

More usable space has also been set up for programs, reading

and studying. During the installation, Semaphore Library will be

closed on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 June, so you can visit

the Port Adelaide Library on these dates for continuing library

services.

COME AND PLAY AT ENFIELD

A new group for babies, toddlers and pre-school aged children

from birth to five years will kick off at Enfield Community Centre

on Monday 17 July from 9:30 until 11:30am.

Children will have a chance to engage in creative, unstructured

learning through play, and enjoy the exciting and bright

Imagination Playground equipment.

Research has shown that regularly attending playgroup can

benefit children in all areas of their development including

physical, social, emotional, language & brain development

and communication.

Playgroups also provide parents and carers with a great

opportunity to meet other local families.

It is free to attend, and there is no need to book, but if you are

planning on coming please give Liz a call on 8405 6556 or email

A DELIVERY OF GOOD

NEIGHBOURS

Kylie Agnew of Clearview was “surprised but also very happy”

to discover that her neighbour Lisa was allocated to assist her

with the delivery of her first child.

Kylie had registered with the Women and Children’s Hospital

Midwife Group Practice program, which provides mums-to-

be care by their own midwife who gets to know them during

the pregnancy, is on call for the birth and provides four weeks

of postnatal care in the woman’s home. The program helps

women form a bond with their midwife, so in Kylie’s case it was

an opportunity to be supported through her pregnancy by a

neighbour she had known for many years.

In March, Kylie nominated Lisa to be recognised in our

Appreciate Your Neighbour competition, as part of our

celebration of Good Neighbour Day. This project is part of

our acknowledgement of the importance of neighbours for the

overall health and wellbeing of our community, and Lisa was

one of five competition winners. She said that when she found

out from the hospital that her neighbour was going to be her

midwife, it seemed like the olden days of the ‘village midwife’.

“She would walk down to my house for our appointments, and

she helped me bring two healthy boys into the world and I feel

lucky to call Lisa my dear friend and great neighbour.

We regularly catch up for coffee and we look out for each other

and our homes.”

We also congratulate our other winners; Sarah from Exeter

who was nominated by Yvette, Melanie and Greg of Enfield who

were nominated by Hanna, and Jenny from Clearview who was

nominated by Trish.
