COMMUNITY PLANTING ON
THE TORRENS
In response to the loss of trees due to higher water flow and in
addition to our ongoing revegetation programs, we are planning
an event in June to recognise Arbor Day. First celebrated in
America in 1874, Arbor Day is now recognised globally as a day
set aside for tree planting.
In conjunction with Greening Australia,Arbor Day will get people
involved in planting trees and learning about the amazing value
of trees for our natural environment. There will be plenty to
do including native bee hotel building and a tree adventure trail
located in the surrounds of the reserve. For active children there
will also be a nature play space and pavement chalk drawing
activities for them to get their hands dirty.
This free event will be held on Sunday 24 June from 10am-2pm
at Beefacres Reserve, Pittwater Drive,Windsor Gardens.There
will be a BBQ and coffee van, so come along and get planting for
Arbor Day. Registration to attend is required, so please contact

BUZZING ABOUT NEW B’N’B
The City of PAE is working with seven other Councils, all of
which run along our scenic River Torrens from the hills to the
sea, to try and increase the number of native bees residing in our
state.To do this, we are encouraging residents to build their own
“Bee B’n’Bs” or “Bee Hotels” which are nests for native bees that
can be set up at home.There are more than 200 different kinds
of native bees in South Australia, including blue-banded bees,
masked bees, leafcutter bees and resin bees. Native bees help
pollinate our native plants and backyard fruits and vegetables.
They are interesting to watch and are not aggressive - they will
only sting you if you grab them.
Come along to our Arbor Day event at Beefacres Reserve on
Sunday 24 June to get some tips and advice from ABC Gardening
