RECYCLING YOUR BOTTLES
AND CANS
We all know about the importance of recycling, but you might not
know that PAE is a hub for recycling right around metro Adelaide.
The Scouts Recycling Depot in Port Adelaide is one of nine
Scouts Recycling sites in South Australia, and has been receiving
and sorting cans and bottles from the public for more than
40 years.
Through outreach programs, the Scouts Recycling service also
assists more than 1,800 clubs throughout Adelaide to recycle, by
dropping recycling bins directly to them and collecting them once
full.This not only helps our local clubs save money, but also sees
the small handling fee that is collected reinjected into the Scout’s
wide range of services.
Last year, the Scouts collected 93 million drink containers in
South Australia, which contributed more than $2 million back
into their organisation.These items were sorted locally at
businesses within PAE for the next stage in each
recycling process.
Scouts Recycling in SA has 115 local employees, ManagerWarren
Stone says, “We have a high staff retention rate with a lot of long
term employees. I love working with diverse groups of people
and being able to provide on the job training and development
for people who may not be able to gain employment elsewhere.”
