NEW EMERGENCY RESOURCE

Throughout our history disasters have had a significant and

sometimes lasting impact on individuals, communities and the

environments where we live and work. While events, such as

floods, storms and earthquakes cannot be prevented, we can

all act to minimise the risks they pose to us.

Whilst many of us may not understand the role we can have in

preventing and preparing for an emergency, even fewer have a

plan or know what to do in response to a crisis.

So we have created the Community Emergency Management

Plan (CEMP), which is designed to not only increase community

awareness and assist individuals and businesses in preparing for

an emergency, but to help reduce the negative impacts of a

large-scale event.

The plan was developed with funding by the Commonwealth

Government and the South Australian Minister for Emergency

Services through the National Disaster Resilience Program and

was made possible through collaboration with representatives

from many community groups, local businesses, the Emergency

Services and City of PAE stakeholders. The Online Plan is easily

accessible at

www.cityofpae.sa.gov.au/CEMP

or contact Jonathan

Jackson on 8405 6955.

BARISTA PROGRAM

The recently launched Aboriginal Barista Social Enterprise

program builds the skills and confidence of young Aboriginal

people, while teaching them the fine art of making the

perfect coffee.

A partnership between several local organisations, the initiative

uses a fully equipped mobile trailer to deliver training and real

life work experience at events to upskill participants. It is hoped

that through this, young people will gain valuable customer

service experience, connections to potential employers and the

opportunity to showcase their positive and proud culture.

If your school or workplace has an upcoming event, and would

like the services of a barista van, please contact Tauondi College

on 8240 0300.

LIGHTS ON

It’s exciting to see construction underway at the new Lights

Stadium in Lightsview. We are working in partnership with the

State Government to create a venue where our community can

lead active, healthy lifestyles and participate in a range of sport,

recreation and community activities.

With five international standard basketball courts which can

be used for a wide range of indoor sports and other activities,

multiple reconfigurable community spaces, a commercial kitchen

and much more, this new community and recreation centre will

support the need for more indoor sports facilities in the eastern

part of our Council area.To see a timelapse video of construction

so far, visit the project page on our website or visit our

social media pages.
