CHIEF EXECUTIVE

OFFICER’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the Spring edition of Pen2Paper.

I am delighted to be writing this message on

behalf of Council for the final Pen2Paper of

this Council term. The 2018 Council Elections

are on the horizon, and Council has moved

into caretaker period. You will be receiving

your ballot papers from 22 October, and

although voting in Council Elections isn’t

compulsory, I encourage you to vote and take

the opportunity to influence what will happen

in your neighbourhood now and into

the future.

As the days are getting longer we’re

approaching a key time for community events

and local celebrations, with a Boatfest, beach

games, arts, sports, films and a lot more in the

City of Port Adelaide Enfield, known locally

as PAE.

One such event is the popular Twilight Parade

that will bring thousands of people to the

Port on Saturday 17 November to watch the

passing parade and join in the after party.

Also we are thrilled to have been selected to

host the Stage One race finish of the 2019

Santos Tour Down Under in January, so we

will be on the world stage once again and

gearing up for a big summer celebration.

We have been recognised for our

commitment to improving our services and

connection to the community with two

recent accolades:Animal Management Officer

of the Year Award and a High Commendation

at the National Awards for Local Government

for the 2018Walk of Awareness.

The construction of the Lights Community

and Sports Centre at Lightsview is running on

schedule, with the roof planned to be in place

by the end of the year, as we move closer to

completing a facility offering a range of sport,

recreation and community activities for our

community to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

Roy Marten Park on Military Road,Taperoo

is now open and ready, with an adventure

playground, separate parks for large and small

dogs, BBQ and picnic areas and stunning new

art sculptures ‘Tent Line’ that incorporate the

unique history of the area.

Often we undertake projects that are out

of sight, but they are just as vital to our

community, such as the $6 million stormwater

and drainage upgrade now underway which

will address flooding in Kilburn and Blair Athol

and industrial areas around Gepps Cross.

We’ve upgraded our libraries throughout PAE,

and the new jewel in the crown is the Parks

Library that will open in October. This state

of the art building will be a place to explore,

to meet, to enjoy and to learn with its latest

technology, plenty of light, lots of books, a

new toy library and vibrant public artworks.

We look forward to seeing you out and about

discovering what makes PAE so special at this

time of year.
