WE’RE GROWING FOR GOLD

Back for a second year in PAE from 1-14 October, the Growing

for Gold program encourages young people aged 3-16 to

participate in sporting and recreational activities within their local

community. Local sport and recreation providers will be opening

their doors to offer club activities free of charge to participants.

All club sessions are fully supervised by a representative of the

club. The club sessions are designed to introduce young people

to a wide range of different sport and recreation opportunities.

Built into the event is an incentive scheme that encourages young

people to try different activities and most importantly to take the

next step of joining a club of their choice.

This is the second year that Growing for Gold has been run in

the City of PAE, however it has been successfully run in the City

of Salisbury since 1999 and we are again excited to be working

together to offer a bigger joint program this year.

The 2018 Growing for Gold program will be held during the

October School Holidays and registrations are now open.Visit

for more information and the full

program of sessions to be offered.

ON YOUR MARKS AT IVERSEN

In late July we opened the new synthetic sprint track at Iversen

Athletics Reserve in Port Adelaide, well in time for the summer.

This track is the second such track in South Australia and will

open up plenty of opportunities for over 350 athletes from

Port Adelaide Athletics Club andWest Lakes and Districts Little

Athletics Centre.

The track has 10 lanes covering a 120 metre distance, which

can now provide all weather training and additional competition

opportunities outside of the South Australian Athletics Stadium,

which up until now was the only synthetic athletic track in

South Australia.

This new synthetic track will also support the initiatives of our

local clubs and centres, and allows for increased participation

and efficiency in running events, as well as reduced waiting time

between events. It will also serve the wider South Australian

athletics community for training and niche competition

opportunities.

Leading a fit and active lifestyle is something we value greatly in

the City of PAE, and we have been pleased to partner and share

costs with the State Government to make Iversen Athletics

Reserve a modern and versatile facility.

PLAY IT ON

Have you got old sports equipment that you no longer use?

Play it On is a social enterprise that provides funding to assist

children from families that are financially challenged to participate

in sports.Your donation of sports equipment will be sold and

the profits raised will assist kids with their sporting club fees.

Throughout August we had collection points at the Civic Centre,

Lefevre Stadium, Enfield Community Centre, and Greenacres

Library and we collected a range of great gear, destined for a

second life with sporty new owners.

To help a new generation of young people to take part in sport,

there is still the opportunity to donate formerly loved equipment

in working order such as bats, balls, pads, uniforms and skates.
