Better World Arts
Indigenous
Cultures Weekend
Better World Arts once again presents two
fun, informative and unique workshops,
teaching some of Australia’s traditional
Indigenous skills to the wider community,
while fostering a greater appreciation for the
customs and creativity of the Anangu artists
and musicians.
Supported by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield
Ipiri Workshop
Join three women from the Anangu
Pitjantjatjara / Yankunytjatjara Lands, who
now live in Port Adelaide, to learn traditional
weaving techniques with Ipiri (native grass)
and raffia. Anangu women have been
using these techniques to make decorative
clothes and accessories for generations,
and now you can make your own basket or
drink coaster, while children make animal
sculptures. These workshops are extremely
popular, with the sessions in the 2011
Port Festival filled to capacity. A special
opportunity to share and learn from Anangu
women in the relaxed and inspiring setting
of Better World Art’s gallery space.
Didgeridoo Workshops
The didgeridoo is Australia’s most recognised
musical instrument, with a haunting sound
like no other. Join our master players to learn
about its history and cultural significance, the
unique playing technique and have a go at
making music yourself.
