OUR

ECONOMY

A city of opportunity

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield contributes a great deal to

the overall health of the South Australian economy, enabling the

realisation of the economic aspirations of our state. Our City

is evolving from its history in trade and industry to our focus

today on becoming an economically modern and culturally

vibrant community.

We work to promote the array of varied goods and services

that are on offer across the area. The diversity of our landscape

and population means we have many unique businesses that

have special appeal to particular segments of the market.

Promoting local businesses to support the creation of local

jobs is fundamental to the success of the work we do as a

Council. Our economy provides jobs for our people, goods and

services for the community and helps create a connected and

prosperous City.

OUR

ENVIRONMENT

A city that cares for its

natural environment and heritage

The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is also home to a number

of historically and environmentally significant areas such as

the Dolphin Sanctuary, Biodiversity Park, Barker Inlet, the Port

Adelaide River, the GillmanWetlands, Dry Creek and River

Torrens Linear Park.

As a Council we are very aware of our responsibility to protect

our natural environment however, we are also looking for ways

to improve our region from a tourism, economic, and quality

of life perspective. Managing our responsibilities towards both

our environment, and our people is an ongoing focus area and

one that with careful management will allow us to make the

most of the natural resources in our area, for the benefit of our

community and visitors.

We are also committed to the care and activation of our

heritage buildings to enable them to be part of a creative and

distinctive region.

OUR

COMMUNITY

A city that supports

community wellbeing

With our large and diverse population (123,947 people, 2016),

the City of Port Adelaide Enfield is the third largest of any

local government area in South Australia. Our high levels of

cultural and linguistic diversity brings with it both challenges and

opportunities for the residents and Council. Ensuring we are

representing the needs and wishes of our diverse community

requires significant work to understand those needs and deliver

the services and projects that will best serve them.

However, the opportunities this diversity brings are numerous,

from multicultural festivals, and dining options to the chance

to learn about other cultures and develop a unique and

prosperous new community. To ensure we are making the most

of the opportunities and addressing the challenges, it is vital that

as a Council we are engaging with our community in ways that

speak to their needs and that encourage involvement in the

decision-making process.

Our population is expected to continue to grow, increasing

the need for us to focus on understanding and delivering

what our community needs as a whole. This is something

we take very seriously and will continue to make progress

towards this goal over the coming years. Our aim is to be a

city that supports community wellbeing through good health,

cohesiveness, and inclusiveness.
