In 2009 the Council in partnership with SA Water received funding from the
Federal Government to build an Aquifer Storage and Recovery System (ASR)
scheme at the Barker Inlet Wetland site.
The harvesting and reuse of stormwater runoff was an initial objective of the
Barker Inlet Wetland and is now proceeding. Initially water will be harvested
from the HEP Pond. SA Water and the Port Adelaide Enfield Council engaged
Eco Management Services Pty Ltd (EMS) to undertake research on the
following:-

Water level variation effected by stormwater harvesting
•
Vegetation and fauna management
•
Carp management solutions
It is important that the water harvesting does not compromise the functioning of
the wetland ecosystem, potentially reducing its value as fauna and flora habitat,
amenity values, and water quality improvement performance.
The Barker Inlet Water Harvesting project is due to be completed in 2013.

Description:
Magazine and Ranger Wetlands outlet is a water quality sampling site. Water
samples are taken at regular intervals and tested for various qualities including
pH and conductivity. Water level data is recorded by a data logger and
transmitted remotely via a telemetry system. The site is solar powered by a roof
mounted solar panel. The data is available online via the Adelaide & Mount
Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board website.
