Significant new residential developments or urban regeneration projects are in
various stages of progress including the Port Adelaide Waterfront Development
(which is to be renegotiated by the State Government in 2013), Northgate
Stages 14 and 15 (Lightsview) and the Parks or ‘Westwood' regeneration
project, which was recently completed and created approximately 2,000 new
homes over 15 years.
Other areas such as Kilburn and Blair Athol contain significant numbers of
older Housing Trust dwellings that mav have potential for redevelopment in the
coming years.
A total of 90 hectares of land has been developed at Northgate, accommodating
approximately 1,890 dwellings. The ongoing redevelopment of the Port
Adelaide waterfront has the potential to create new residential areas in coming
years.
The State Government’s
30-year Plan for Greater Adelaide
states that there will
be a net growth of 258,000 dwellings over 30 years. The ‘Greater Adelaide
region’ is divided up into a number of regions and the City of Port Adelaide
Enfield is situated in both the northern and western regions. The Western
Adelaide region is anticipated to accommodate an additional 33,060 infill
dwellings within identified 'transit corridors' and 9,500 infill dwellings outside of
the transit corridors.
The Northern Adelaide region is anticipated to accommodate an additional
20,500 infill dwellings within identified 'transit corridors' and 6,000 infill dwellings
outside of the designated transit corridors.
