The State Government has committed to undertaking a major Port Centre
Renewal Program from 2012, which will identify opportunities to improve
development outcomes. This will build on the internationally recognised Port
Centre Master Plan work which Council undertook in 2006.
Council, with funding assistance from the Commonwealth and State, is also
undertaking a streetscaping redevelopment in Dale Street at Port Adelaide in
2013, to improve the amenity and safety of this key heritage and commercial
link.
Land use planning
The State Government and Council control development via the Port Adelaide
Enfield Development Plan, which is a statutory document, established under the
Development Act 1993.
A Development Plan Amendment (DPA) is a document prepared by Council or
the Minister responsible for urban planning, to amend the Development Plan -
the main tool used to establish appropriate land uses and manage development
in the Council area.
A DPA enables Council or the Minister to designate land for future use, respond
to changing development and population patterns, reflect State Government
objectives for future development, and via consultation may reflect the views if
the residential and business community.
In 2010 and 2011 the following DPAs were consolidated into the Port Adelaide
