Planet Footprint collates data from 2005/06 directly from Council’s energy
retailers.
The ongoing reporting of Council's energy and water consumption, and
evaluation of trends, must take into account normal growth in the Council's
operations, including new Council buildings or facilities built to service
community needs, or additional open space that Council acquires. Additional
open space contributes to increase in energy and water use by the use of
irrigation systems, reserve lighting and increased maintenance requirements
following major new residential development projects. The Council Buildings
sector GHG profile for 2007 included an increased number of Council buildings
compared to the 2004 financial year. This change increased the energy (GJ)
value in the building energy use profile compared to 2004. However, the
energy use
per facility
has reduced in many cases due to active energy
management actions being taken through Council’s Corporate Utilities Project
(CUP). The most important data is in relation to the energy efficiency of each
facility as it is retrofitted or improved over time. It also highlights the importance
of ensuring that any
new
facility that Council develops should include
requirements for very high level energy efficiency in its design and construction.
This issue is addressed in Council’s
Energy and Water Efficiency Management
Plan
via a review of Council's contract and tendering policies to ensure that
specifications for future buildings include the requirement that clear and
rigorous energy management design and performance standards are met. (For
further detail, see Council’s Energy and Water Efficiency Management Plan
which can be accessed on Council’s website)

Local energy and greenhouse gas emissions
There is no specific data available on the energy consumed by commercial,
residential and industrial sectors within the Port Adelaide Enfield boundary.
However Planet Footprint has developed a methodology in deriving an
estimated figure for energy consumptions and emissions per resident per day
based on Council size.
