Figure 7: Streetlight Energy and Emissions annual totals
(
Source: Planet Footprint 2011).
Council currently does not consider Streetlight sector emissions as a
corporate responsibility. ETSA Utilities have operational control of the
majority of the streetlights within the Port Adelaide Enfield boundary and
therefore are responsible for reporting to the Commonwealth regulator on
greenhouse gas emissions from that source.
45% of the Council's greenhouse gas emissions are from the streetlights
sector
There has been a 2258 GJ energy increase in the streetlights sector since
2005/06
Energy use has grown every inventory year as street lighting provision
expands with the creation of large new residential areas.
Port Adelaide Enfield Council, in collaboration with other Councils and the Local
Government Association, is working to advocate for ETSA to improve its energy
efficiency with regard to street lighting assets. This is a major opportunity for
reducing the region’s greenhouse gas emissions.
