Biodiversity
Biodiversity is the variety of life - it is our ‘natural environment’, the different
plants (flora), animals (fauna) and micro-organisms, their genes, and the
ecosystems they inhabit. The City of Port Adelaide Enfield has significant areas
of open space and coastline supporting biodiversity.
The Biodiversity chapter discusses the following environmental priorities:
Assessment of the vulnerability of local ecosystems to the impacts of
climate change.
Management Plans for all areas of conservation value should be
developed to identify the issues and pressures in these vulnerable areas,
and put in place site-specific management, conservation and rehabilitation
plans to ensure their long term preservation and viability.
Utilising opportunities for biodiversity enhancement through the
establishment of indigenous drought-tolerant vegetation in verges and
reserves where practical, in accordance with Council's Urban Landscape
Guidelines.
Undertaking detailed flora and fauna surveys and ecological assessment
of natural areas to ascertain baseline information and guide future
revegetation or development.
A review of Council’s Biodiversity Management Plan in line with strategic
actions, and development of a framework and guideline document.
Fostering partnerships with volunteer groups in the management of natural
areas.
