The world at her feet

Five year-old Enfield resident Eva-Joy is a little girl with

big dreams and an even bigger heart. This April she’s

setting off to London and Disneyland in Paris to perform

in a beauty pageant, with a difference.

The Face of the Globe contest isn’t about glitz and

glamour – in fact high heels and make-up are banned –

and girl’s dresses must be below the knee. This contest is

a humanitarian event with most of the proceeds set to be

donated to the Rainbow Child Foundation which helps

underprivileged children all over the world.

Eva-Joy is already a dab hand at helping others. To raise

money for charity she’s hosted a disco, sold chocolates,

invited children to make their own cardboard car to

spend a night at the 'drive ins' and even sold her own

beloved cubby house.

Her efforts have benefited The Make a Wish Foundation,

HeartKids, Salvation Army, Animal Welfare League and

The Rainbow Child Foundation. And she recently created

a ‘rainbow awareness’ campaign which encouraged

children from all over the world to post rainbow pictures,

for charity.

Those efforts and Eva-Joy’s special talent in calisthenics

have resulted in her Grand Finalist position in the Face

of the Globe pageant competition. She’ll be required to

undertake three interviews and give a speech, as well as

perform a calisthenics routine in Disneyland, Paris. All

this at the tender age of five! The City of PAE wishes

Eva-Joy every success – this is a little girl with the world

at her feet.

Flotilla for kids sets sail

down the Port River

Teddy bears, fairies and, of course, pirates joined

around a thousand people for the annual Flotilla

for Kids in the Port in February.

The annual event is held by the Little Heroes

Foundation to raise money for terminally ill

children. Over the years it’s donated $16 million

to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and it

provides daily support for families, through the

Little Heroes Care program.

Port Adelaide Enfield Council is a proud

sponsor of the event – and on the day, Mayor

Gary Johanson took to the microphone to

commentate as the procession of boats

passed by.

Money raised from this year’s Flotilla will

go towards a new $4 million Robotics and

Innovation Centre at the Women’s and

Children’s Hospital.

'Vintage' festival for Port

Adelaide

A new 'vintage-style' festival is heading for

the Port! The City of Port Adelaide Enfield in

conjunction with the Museums, will stage the

event on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October

2016 in Lipson Street Port Adelaide.

It’ll include vintage boats, planes, trains, cars,

motorbikes, hobbies, signage, furniture, clothing,

toys, books, tools and vintage crafts.

Last year’s event focussed on the Port’s Rail,

Aviation and Maritime Museums and the Tall

Ships – it was a huge success with over 38,000

visitors over the weekend.

This year – the Council’s calling on anyone

with an interest in 'vintage' to come and take

part – to make the October festival even bigger

and better. Businesses, individuals and groups

are invited to get involved by running a display,

setting up a market stand, donating vintage

items or simply showing your support by helping

us to promote the event.

The three museums in the Port - the SA

Maritime Museum, the SA Aviation Museum

and the National Railway Museum – will each

be putting on special events as part of the

weekend. There will be vintage aircraft runs,

steam boat cruises, heritage vehicles, model

vehicles and much more. The Classic Owners

Motorcycle Club have also committed to putting

on a large display of classic motorcycles.

If you would like to be involved or would like

more information please contact PAE Council’s

Events officer, Sue McKenzie
