The Port’s own National Railway Museum
turns 50 this year, and we’re inviting you
to join in the birthday celebrations over
the Port Festival weekend with exhibitions
and activities for young and old. Together
with the special Port Festival events, visitors
can also wander around the Museum’s
permanent displays of historic locomotives,
passenger and commercial carriages, freight
vehicles and the intriguing collection of rail
travel memorabilia.

An exhibition of paintings by Port Adelaide
Artist, John Ford. The exhibition compliments
the 50th anniversary of the National Railway
Museum. Through his artwork, John shows the
story of the train, the people and the places
that were so important to South Australia.

Full Steam Ahead
Throughout the Port Festival weekend, visitors
can take delight in the rare experience
of travelling between the National
Railway Museum and the South Australian
Aviation Museum on the big, black, fully-
restored steam engine
Peronne
. Rusty the
iconic ‘Redhen’ diesel railcar, will also be
running over its own 2km tourist route. The
Museum’s little blue steam locomotive
Bub
, will also be trundling around the
site, with its carriages full of smiling kids.
