YOUR
Photographic Competition
Thank you to all who submitted an entry in the 2013
Photographic Competition – Suitcase Stories. The process of
shortlisting the images was extremely difficult as there were
many evocative and imaginative images submitted. Visitors to
our libraries will have seen the wonderful images on display
and many took the chance to vote in the ‘People’s Choice’
competition. Voting has also been conducted online and
winners are due to be announced by the end of November.
The winning image will be featured in the first edition of Pen
2 Paper of 2014.
Reducing copy costs
In July the library introduced Envisionware – a new computer
management system. This system controls all of the PC
bookings, printing and photocopying. The introduction of this
new system means that you no longer need to add credit to
your library card. You can copy and print now simply using
coins and notes, and the price of printing has been reduced.
A4 copies are 10c and A3 copies are 20c. If you have credit
from the old system on your library card, you can apply for a
reimbursement. Simply present your card to library staff, who
will check your balance and refund any credit owing to you.
But be quick – refunds will only be available until the end
of the 2013.
Poppy and Patch Show
Two of our library branches are pleased to be presenting a
special musical show for the littlest ones in the family. Fiona
Munro has written music and songs aimed specifically at
babies and toddlers, aged 0-2 years, featuring toy characters
Poppy the duck and Patch the dog. Singing and listening
are great ways for you to bond with your baby and will also
stimulate your baby’s interest in language, so bring them
along to this engaging performance. CDs will be available for
purchase from Fiona on the day. Sessions are being held at
Greenacres Library on Wednesday 22 January from
10.30-11am and Semaphore Library on Friday 24 January
from 10.30-11am. Bookings are essential for these free
sessions- to book online visit

Semaphore Library on 8405 6570.
‘What’s the Joke Show’
Bestselling children’s author and entertainer Andy Jones
presents a hilarious literacy and musical show about jokes
and humour. Andy uses his guitar, drums and other props
to help kids understand humour and why jokes can be so
funny. Throughout the show, the concepts of punchlines and
slapstick humour will be explored, and Andy will give some
tips for joke creation, effective verbal delivery and stand up
comedy. The show is recommended for children aged 5-12
years, and will be held at Port Adelaide Library, 2 Church St,
Port Adelaide on Friday 17 January from 11am-12pm, and
Greenacres Library, 2 Fosters Rd, Greenacres, from 2-3pm.
Bookings are essential for these free sessions. To book online:
or call the branches directly.
Give the Gift of Reading
This year the libraries are giving you the opportunity to
‘Give the Gift of Reading’ to children from the local area.
To participate in this community initiative, simply purchase
a children’s book and drop it off at one of the library
branches at Enfield, Greenacres, Port Adelaide or Semaphore,
before December 13. All books received will be presented
to UnitingCare Wesley Port Adelaide to be distributed in
their Christmas hampers. When you make your donation,
remember to fill out an entry form so you can be in the
draw to win one of two KOBO Touch E-Readers. Your
donation will help children develop a love of reading
that can last a lifetime.
Goodbye 2013…hello 2014!
