Dedicated volunteers
The State Emergency Service (SES) is a volunteer emergency
service organisation that gives immediate assistance during
emergencies and disasters. The City of Port Adelaide Enfield is
serviced by two outstanding SES volunteer units - the Enfield
and Prospect units.
The Enfield SES unit is located just north of Grand Junction
Road, adjacent to Yatala Goal and Stockade Park. The unit
has an active membership of about 45 members who attend
regular training in a number of skills each week. The Prospect
Unit is located in Regency Park. Both units provide a response
to incidents including vehicle accidents, land searches, cliff
rescues, flood and storm damage.
Both units welcome new members, however if you are
interested in volunteering for one of these great services, you
are to first contact the unit to arrange a suitable date and time
to discuss the volunteer roles available and the membership
process. New volunteer intakes begin in February 2014.
Breastfeeding welcomed here
The Australian Government’s Infant Feeding Guidelines
recognise that breastfeeding provides the healthiest start in
life for infants and young children. Furthermore, providing a
supportive physical and social environment that encourages
mothers to continue to breastfeed for as long as they choose is
essential at all levels of the community.
The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) Breastfeeding
Welcome Here program allows businesses and services
to show mothers who choose to breastfeed that they are
supported and encouraged to continue to breastfeed when out
and about in their community.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, supported by OPAL, aims
to show its support for mothers to continue to breastfeed for
as long as they choose. To do this the ABA’s Breastfeeding
Welcome Here program will be implemented at Council’s
Civic Centre, Town Hall, Visitor Information Centre, Libraries
and Community Centres. Please look for the Breastfeeding
Welcome Here stickers at these venues. For other venues in
your area check out the list of Breastfeeding Welcome Here
venues on the ABA website
.
The ABA has more than 230 local support groups across
Australia. To find a support group closest to you or if you
would like any further information check out the ABA website.
The ABA also has a national breastfeeding helpline that is
available seven days a week. The breastfeeding helpline is
1800 686 268.
