Antenatal support
The Women’s and Children’s Hospital is piloting an
innovative project to provide antenatal care (pregnancy
check ups) at Ocean View College Children’s Centre for
women who live on the Lefevre Peninsula.
This pilot program enables women who are eligible to
meet with an experienced WCH midwife for six of their
seven pregnancy checks instead of going to the Women’s
and Children’s Hospital. Women can arrange to take part
in the pilot program by calling the Pregnancy Referral
Line. Appointments are available on Fridays at the Hub
Community Space within the College.
The Hub is a recent addition to the Ocean View College
Children’s Centre, which is a State Government and
College governing council partnership.
The antenatal service joins other services available to the
local community, including long day child care, preschool,
playgroup/parent group, OT and speech consultants, and
ante and post natal counselling.

On the Same Wave
Council supported the 5th annual
On the Same Wave
Program held at Henley Beach Surf Life Saving Club on
Wednesday 18 December.
The program run by Surf Life Saving SA engaged around 100
new arrivals, migrants and international students aged 12-18
years in sessions aimed at teaching participants how to keep
themselves safe at the beach, both in and out of the water.
Water safety is an issue of concern with regards to children
and young people. On the Same Wave aims to provide
the skills and knowledge for safe water participation, and
reducing risk taking by young people, with the aim of
reducing drowning.
