ABC Emergency Service
After a tragic fire season along the east coast of Australia
last year, we should all think about the risk posed to our
home or business by emergencies or natural disasters.
The Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) Emergency
website has checklists and plans related to bushfires,
floods, earthquakes, storms and heatwaves. There’s even
a short test you can take to assess your preparedness
for a disaster.
Should an emergency or disaster arise anywhere across
the Council area, ABC local broadcasts will keep you
informed. The ABC works with emergency agencies to
deliver warnings, alerts, information and news about
disasters and emergencies on TV, radio, on line and on
mobile as soon as possible after a community is deemed
to be under threat.
What’s more, if you’re travelling anywhere in Australia,
ABC Emergency provides this information to communities
all over the country and will provide information during,
before and after times of crisis and disaster, wherever
you are in Australia. For this reason, the ABC Emergency
website is handy for travellers, especially if you’re
unfamiliar with an area or not sure how to find local
warning information.
In an emergency, more than 60 ABC local stations will
help you identify what’s happening and how to get more
information using coverage guides, disaster checklists,
critical information and maps via social media and
radio, including rolling radio coverage of major events.
