P2P Apr 2014 - May 2014 - page 2

Last year a suggestion was put to
Council that it should consider creating
some sort of memorial to one of the
most generous-spirited people we’ve
known in recent years, the late
Arthur Musolino.
Although Arthur’s good works touched
many across the City of Port Adelaide
Enfield, he was best known in Klemzig
and it is here that a memorial garden in
his honor was opened in
March this year.
It’s a most appropriate memorial
because, among many other things,
Arthur was a passionate gardener,
president of the Enfield Horticultural
Society for 10 years and Chief Steward at
their two annual shows. He also ran the
Society’s very important plant sales stall,
with many of the plants those he had
grown at home.
It also makes a most attractive addition
to the rebuilt Klemzig Recreation
Ground, which was opened at the
same time – marking the end of a four
year process that has seen most of the
reserve replaced with new buildings,
infrastructure and landscaping.
The new community hall provides
excellent access, commercial kitchen
facilities and access to oval and walking
facilities around the reserve. The end
result is a showpiece that includes top-
level oval facilities, floodlighting
and carparking.
There are now excellent landscaped
passive park facilities that include
barbeques, seating and shelters, personal
exercise equipment and walking paths,
open community tennis courts and
playgrounds featuring natural
play elements.
The plan also had to take into account
stormwater requirements, including an
underground drainage system for the
oval and a new oval-wide
irrigation system.
This has been a major investment by
Council but it has resulted in Klemzig
Recreation Ground becoming one of
Adelaide’s great community parks.
