YOUR
iPad for beginners
Do you have an iPad but don’t know what to do next?
Council’s libraries are offering relaxed, one-on-one training
sessions for absolute beginners, so bring along your iPad and
learn more about:
• the parts of your iPad
• how to log onto the library wireless internet service
• how to visit the App store
Sessions last for one hour and are on offer at each of
Council’s four libraries during the month. Sessions are held
between 2 and 5pm on the first Wednesday of the month at
Semaphore Library; Enfield Library on the second Wednesday
of the month, Greenacres Library on the third Wednesday of
the month and Port Adelaide on the fourth Wednesday of the
month. Please contact your library branch to book your
free session.
Telling your cartoon story
During April, comic book and caricature artist Paul Duff will
deliver two fun and interactive sessions suitable for children
eight years and over. Paul will help them learn how to create
their own unique comic strip.
Sessions will be held at the Port Library from 2-5pm on
Monday 14 April, and at Greenacres Library from 2-5pm on
Tuesday 15 April. No previous experience in illustration is
required - just come along with an idea for a story you would
like to tell. Numbers are limited so contact the libraries to
secure your spot.
The library service is also helping young people to participate
in the first statewide graphic novel competition. Participation
is easy - all they will need to do is develop a storyline using
six cells of cartoons or ‘graphics’.
The competition is being run to coincide with Youth Week,
from 4 - 13 April, which has the theme of, “Our Voice, Our
Impact” and is for 12 – 18 year olds.
Further information is available at your local library, which
is where you will need to submit your original artwork.
Participants must be residents of SA and a library member.
The state or ‘grand’ prize will be an Ipad Mini, so start
creating your story today.
Historic photos go online
Council has created a new web app to share its collection
of more than 3000 historical photographs and never before
publicly viewed aerial mapping from 1936, 1968 and 1983
(Enfield only) with the community.
Using the new responsive site you will be able to browse our
historical images by a map or photo gallery.
By choosing a theme of photographs from the numerous
photo sets, which include churches, trains and bridges, they
will all display as interactive points on a map.
Selecting a point will show the photo thumbnail and details.
Switching to gallery mode will enable flicking through the
images and their titles and descriptions. Switching back to
the map will show the location of the currently displaying
photo. The photos may also be viewed on Flickr using a link
provided. Images may also be filtered by date and subject.
Using the aerial mapping tool you will be able to view the
significant changes that have occurred within the City of Port
Adelaide Enfield or your property location since 1936.
Council’s Local History web page contains more information
about the project and how you may donate images for
inclusion in the collection.
Join us for the launch of the website Thursday 1 May from
6.30- 7.30pm at Port Adelaide Library. Bookings are essential
on 8405 6580.
