Teach your mutt manners
The Animal Welfare League (AWL) might be best
known for its animal adoption centre, however it
also offers several services to help our many pet
owner residents to be responsible pet owners.
One way to enhance the bond with your pet, no
matter its age, is to take part in behaviour training
classes. The AWL’s Mutts with Manners training
and behaviour courses are designed and run by
fully qualified behaviour trainers and can help to
improve the relationship with you and your dog, no
matter how long you have been together.
Located at the AWL’s Wingfield shelter, the
behaviour trainers use reward-based techniques to
build positive relationships between owners and
their dog. Upcoming courses will be held on
June 13 and 27, July 11 or 25.
Private one-on-one sessions are also available with
a qualified behaviour trainer on both weekdays
and weekends for dogs that might need extra
help in overcoming negative behaviours. For more
information on the courses, private sessions and
enrolment please email
dogtraining@awlsa.com.auor call 8348 1300.
If you are planning a holiday, it’s worth considering
the AWL Boarding Centre, which has earned a
well-deserved reputation for excellence from
thousands of customers since opening in 1986.
The team pride themselves on the high level of
individual care provided.
Whether you need somewhere for your pet to stay
for long or short periods, the AWL Boarding Centre
provides peace of mind knowing that your pet will
be lovingly cared for, just as they would be in their
own home.
The centre is open between 8am-4pm each day
and inspections by appointment are welcome.
For more information please call 8348 1300 or
All proceeds from these pet services, as well as
pet cremations and dog grooming, support the
work the AWL does for thousands of lonely and
unloved animals each year. Council is committed
to continuing to support the work of this valuable
service, which is located at 1-19 Cormack
Road, Wingfield.

Re-energising seminar
The Re-energising Port Adelaide Enfield community seminar
supported by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the
Department of Industry and Science on Tuesday 31 March
was well attended by more than 40 guests.
Speakers included Heinz Werner Engel, Andy Chambers
(SEED Consulting Services) and Port Adelaide Enfield Mayor
Gary Johanson, who opened the evening.
Heinz’s presentation on energy and resources in
Bangladesh, Algeria and Europe provided a valuable insight
into energy efficiency from an international prospective,
and how “grass roots” eco-mapping methodology is leading
change in Indonesia.
Andy Chambers provided a brief insight into the local
Re-energising program and the success it is generating
within the community. Lachlan Eddy, Assistant Manager
of the Commonwealth Government Community Energy
Efficiency Program, commended the seminar as being very
well organised and attended.
The Re-energising Port Adelaide Enfield Community
Program energy efficiency building upgrade works have now
been commissioned in eight selected community buildings,
with work at Portland Football Club recently completed
with LED lighting, heating and insulation upgrades. Further
upgrade works and the energy consumption benefits these
activities will bring will take place in coming months.
The Re-energising program is dedicated to making a
difference in reducing community building energy
consumption through the use of technical upgrades and
behavioural change education and awareness activities. If
you would like more information about this program, please
contact Council’s Environmental Projects Officer
Craig Hughes on 8405 6600.
Where your waste goes
Did you ever want to find out what happens to your waste,
recyclables and organics once they are collected from
the kerb?
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield and KESAB Environmental
Solutions are offering residents a fascinating free bus tour
to visit the places these materials are taken after collection.
The day includes guided tours from site managers as well as
opportunities for questions to be expertly answered.
KESAB is currently taking registrations of interest from
individuals and community groups from the Port Adelaide
Enfield area. Tour dates have not been finalised but will
take place later in the year (weekdays only). To register your
