GOVERNOR TOURS OUR CITY

In March, we welcomed His Excellency The Honourable Hieu

Van Le, Governor of South Australia, and Mrs Le for a tour and

overview of some of the exciting projects happening in our city

at the moment.

We were thrilled to be able to show off some of the major

projects and showcase our plans for new facilities and

infrastructure in the community.

The morning was spent visiting key locations as part of our

activation program in Port Adelaide, including Fontanelle in the

old Post Office, Mixed Creative in the old hospital, the Port

Admiral which is undergoing renovations ready for opening in

August, and the First Commercial Hotel.

The group then boarded a bus to visit the other exciting

projects Council is undertaking across the city.

The first stop was the new Dock One development which

kicks off in the Port soon. Next was the new Taperoo football

facility, followed by the new Roy Marten dog park.

After passing through Techport, the Outer Harbor Passenger

Terminal, and Semaphore Road, the group travelled to the

eastern side of the city to view the site for the new Lightsview

Indoor Recreation Hub and the new Parks Library and

Community Centre and the Kilburn Community Centre.

PAE IS THEWELCOMING CITY

"Welcoming is not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing

to do."

The City of PAE is proud to be the first council in South

Australia to join theWelcoming Cities Network. The network

supports local councils and community leaders to leverage

the ideas and innovation that come from being welcoming and

inclusive, whilst working to remove barriers for new arrivals.

Mayor Gary Johanson said, "Welcoming Cities is an initiative for

cities that want to demonstrate their commitment to providing

a place where people from all walks of life can feel safe, secure

and welcome.”

“As the first South Australian council to officially join

Welcoming Cities, we have committed to take steps toward

creating an environment that unlocks the full potential of all

members of our community.”

“We recognise that cities which proactively foster an

environment of belonging and participation for new arrivals as

well as emerging communities, increase their social cohesion,

economic capability and resilience,” he added.

“Joining the network highlights unity, shared values and will

ensure that diverse voices are listened to and celebrated.”

Council will now work towards becoming accredited under the

Australian Standard for Welcoming Cities to benchmark policy

and practice in cultural diversity and inclusion.

Welcoming Cities supports Local Governments committed

to becoming more welcoming through the following four

approaches:

Knowledge Sharing

- supporting local governments and

communities to learn from each other and access resources,

research, policies, and case studies.

Partnership Development

- brokering meaningful multi-sector

partnerships that foster a sense of belonging and participation

for all members of the community.

Standard and Accreditation

- developing and accrediting the

Australian Standard for Welcoming Cities to benchmark policy

and practice in cultural diversity and inclusion.

Celebrating Success

- showcasing leading practice through a

National Award focused on responses by local government and

communities to welcoming efforts.
