ONCE UPON AVERY

SPECIAL STORYTIME

In the past few months, Port Adelaide Library has introduced

an exciting new storytime for children with special needs.

Held on Mondays, once a fortnight during the school term,

from 10-11am, PAWS (Port Adelaide EnfieldWelcomes

ChildrenWith Special Needs) has been created to engage

and inspire our kids in a safe and inclusive environment.

The sessions include storytime, songs and playtime with

specifically selected toys and visual aids to assist with sensory

issues (you’ll even get to meet our mascot, Polka Dot Puppy,

who attends every session).

Tara brings her daughter Emma to PAWS sessions,“Often kids

like Emma have to miss out on library story time and other

activities because of their special needs. This is lonely and

isolating. PAWS recognises that kids with disabilities need a

special program with volunteers who understand their needs.

We are very thankful there are activities like this for families

like ours.”

Sessions are suitable for developmental age of 2-5 years and

numbers are kept at a minimum. We also welcome siblings to

come along too.

A NEW LOOK

FOR OUR LIBRARIES

If you have visited Port Adelaide, Semaphore or Greenacres

Libraries recently you may have noticed some changes. From

a beautiful mural at Greenacres to redesigning two of our

libraries, it has been a busy time.

In October, talented local artist Sarah Boese was commissioned

to add some colour to the Greenacres Library building.

The mural was the final touch after the completion of

roadworks, including a pedestrian crossing and the library

carpark, with the end result a vibrant and colourful entry point.

Port Adelaide and Semaphore Libraries have also

experienced changes as part of the City of PAE Libraries’

Branch Improvement Project.

We have collated and moved the collections to make it easier

to find things and also made more space for collaboration,

conversation and community engagement.

We are breathing new life into our libraries by delivering

a fresh new look and feel.

As our libraries sit at the centre of our community, it’s

important that our libraries are welcoming, accessible and user-

friendly. And as the needs of our community change, we are

evolving the way we provide service to our customers.

Thank you to the library staff involved and our amazing group

of volunteers and we look forward to introducing you to our

new-look libraries soon.
