MUDFLATS TO COAST
We are always looking for exciting new ways to get the
community involved in looking after and protecting our
natural environment. In November, as part of our Environment
Community Program, we teamed up with the Natural
Resources Management Authority and an estuary ecologist to
trial a number of education activities with 30 year 9 students
from Portside Christian College.
The students learnt about the importance of the local coastal
habitats and had a blast collecting and identifying all types of
shellfish, sea snails and invertebrates from the coast and beach.
Later in the day, the students took part in a weed mapping
exercise along the beach and learnt about the vulnerable
Red-Capped Plover shorebird species.The learnings from these
activities will go towards accreditation to their Conservation
and Land Management Course. Well done to all involved!
WASTE SERVICES
As Christmas and NewYear occur on Mondays, all waste
collections will be delayed one day for the weeks commencing
25 December 2017 and 1 January 2018.
