MAYOR'S MESSAGE

Although I have been serving as Mayor for the

past 11 years, the Mayoress and I continue to

look forward to this time of the year.

It is a time to catch up with friends at many

seasonal events.

It is also time to reflect on the past year, and

what has been achieved by such a wonderful and

united group of Councillors who have a common

goal of delivering the best possible results for our

community.

We are your representatives, and we are here

to support and assist everyone throughout our

community to help make the City of Port Adelaide

Enfield the best place to live, work and play.

I welcome Matt Osborn as our newly elected

Deputy Mayor, and sincerely thank our outgoing

Deputy Mayor Vanessa McCluskey, who filled the

position over the past year.

Our elected members are an active, professional

and passionate group and it has been a pleasure

chairing this year’s meetings, with all the

spirited debate.

Throughout the past year we have worked

closely with Council staff on many large and small

business and community development projects

across the whole area, from east to west.

These includes the urban renewal of Kilburn and

Blair Athol, which is one of the most significant

revitalisation projects undertaken in South

Australia.The Parks Library and Community

Centre and Lightsview Indoor Recreation project

masterplans have also been progressed for what

we believe will become future focal hubs for

community meetings and activity.

We are also fortunate to have strong support

from State and Federal Governments for these

and other projects that will further enhance

our region.

At Port Adelaide Enfield, we are a City that

acknowledges and celebrates diversity.

I am very proud of our commitment to welcoming

new arrivals here with ourWelcoming Cities

initiative and I have attended many multicultural

festivals and events throughout the whole year.

We also recognise our Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander people through our ATSI Awards,Walk of

Awareness and the recent TARNANTHI at the

Port event, and our support of the Reconciliation

Walk and Tandanya's Survival Day at Semaphore.

With everyone working well together, from our

Councillors, to Council staff, to individuals and

groups within the community, we become stronger,

more united and connected.

We strive to deliver the best services, facilities

and projects at the lowest rates to a community

where people from all walks of life can feel safe,

secure and satisfied.

I wish you all a happy festive season and a

prosperous new year, and I look forward to

starting the year with the exciting Peloton

at the Port, as part of the Santos Tour

Down Under in January.

So ride on 2018!

Mayor Gary Johanson
