LEADERSHIP

A City confident in its leaders

KLEMZIGWARD

Cr Paul Russell

One of my favourite places in the Klemzig

ward is the Klemzig Pioneer Memorial

Garden, which is one of those hidden

historical gems. It marks the place

where the first Lutheran settlers made

their homes in 1838, naming the place

Klemzig after their Prussian hometown.

The garden marks both the place of

settlement and the cemetery.

Many of the names marked there have

resonated throughout our history; names

such as Kavel, Rau, Knispel and Laucke

amongst others.The quiet garden stands

as a reminder of the hardships and

endeavours of those who first came to

this land from afar.

It is worth reflecting that these early

settlers were refugees fleeing religious

persecution. Here they found hope,

opportunity and welcome and returned

that gift many times over throughout our

history.

Cr Tony Barca

A place that is special to me is the Klemzig

Gaza Reserve. To me this is without a doubt

the jewel in the crown of Port Adelaide

Enfield Council.

The reason I entered Council back in

2000 was to advocate for the Enfield side

of our city. Now when you drive around

KlemzigWard you can see how things have

improved. Much better open spaces, the

brand new Klemzig community hall, the new

improved large playground with the bright

shade cloths and the beautiful reserve with

the sporting equipment. On weekends the

park is packed with families of all cultures.

It’s rewarding watching people enjoy the

facilities and I am proud to be part of it.

Open space is very important and needs to

be preserved, particularly, as back yards are

getting smaller. I believe open space is the

harmony for a community as it brings young

and old together.
