Other groupings of Councils are also undertaking similar vulnerability
assessments, including the southern Adelaide metropolitan region.
The studies are supported by the Commonwealth’s Natural Disasters Resilience
Program, the Sustainability and Climate Change Division of State Government,
and the SA Coast Protection Board.
The SA Local Government Association is also providing support to the program,
in preparing guidelines and background research to assist adaptation planning.
A key element of the project will be the undertaking of a ‘vulnerability
assessment’, focusing on the 3 Council areas. This project will investigate and
assess the key risks to the local area, including weather extremes, rainfall
changes, and sea level rise.
Knowing the likely impacts, will allow the three tiers of government, the
business sector, and the local community to prepare appropriate adaptation
actions and investments to enable the region to be resilient to the impacts that
will affect our communities, assets, environment, and economy.
