OUR BEST VERGES ON DISPLAY
Our outdoor field staff work hard to keep our verges and
nature strips looking good.Well cared for verges contribute to
our sense of place and community.
We carry out around six mows and two weed sprays of the
verges per year, making sure that green waste is removed to
avoid it entering our drainage systems.
Combined with the work that Council does, we welcome
residents getting involved in maintaining their verges, and this
may include watering the streets and removing grass or weeds.
Manningham resident, local business owner and mum Stacee,
has transformed the empty road reserve next to her property
into a Nature Play Area for small children. Stacee approached
Council to assist in this project and Council’s Parks and
Gardens team were happy to help.This nature play area
features a fallen tree trunk, stepping stones, teepee, hop scotch,
a fairy garden and sensory plantings shaded by the existing
trees. Stacee established this children’s natural fantasy area by
completing the Verge Development Application and she now
undertakes all maintenance activities.
Stacee was just one of the winners of our second Annual Best
Verges Award, promoting innovate and sustainable gardening
around our City.
