Gillman Dune: The dune, which is now almost completely levelled or
developed, would have provided elevated locations extending into the
otherwise low lying, flood prone environments surrounding the southern
edge of the estuary. A number of sites have been found along its length
including camps of historic significance.
Gepps Cross – Dry Creek area: This area is represented in a number of
museum collections, mainly of skeletal remains. There appears to be a
concentration of skeletal remains within the Kilburn Sand area.
Rosewater – Queenstown area: A number of burial and ceremonial ground
sites have been recorded in the Rosewater – Queenstown area. These
appear closely associated with the remnant dune system (the Rosewater
dunes) (Pullen 2006).
There are a total of 51 sites of Aboriginal significance shown in Table 12. These
are identified by a site ID. Locations are indicative only and in many instances
relate to references to larger areas having been used by the Kaurna people.
As part of the ‘Kaurna Cultural Heritage Survey’ three illustrative maps were
produced showing the Kaurna cultural, environmental and sensory landscape of
the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. It should be noted that this information
represents the views of a selection of local Aboriginal Elders.
