Experience Café – Jobs for
the community
Hospitality’s a competitive industry but now, off the back of
a successful venture in the city, a new inspirational cafe has
opened at Blair Athol, to provide free on-the-job training to
willing volunteers.
The first 'Experience Café' on Hutt Street was opened,
primarily, to give opportunities to new migrants and it’s
reportedly resulted in 80% job success for those who
participate in the program.
That prompted the idea that a second Café could work just
as well around the suburbs of the inner north. A partnership
arose with the Prospect Uniting Church – and that’s where
the new Café is located – at 5 Clifton Street, Blair Athol.
A large crowd attended the opening in February and Liberal
Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson, cut the ribbon.
Organisers said there were high hopes the Experience Café
would lead to job creation for the local community and
the unique business model also provides a welcoming, and
inviting new space for local residents to meet.
On the menu you’ll find toasted sandwiches, wraps and
nachos, as well as coffee, chocolate and chai milkshakes,
soft drinks and juice.
The venue is also providing free tenancy to a local
hairdresser – in yet another show of support for boosting
job opportunities for the local community.
The Experience Café is open Wednesday to Friday, from
10am -3pm. Anyone wanting on-the-job training at the Café
should enquire at the venue or text 0407 608 000.
Peace is Personal
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield invites schools and artists
to register to be part of a ‘Peace Is Personal’ Exhibition as
part of Reconciliation Week 2016, in collaboration with
Global Communities for Peace.
Global Communities for Peace believes in and promotes
peace within ourselves, the community and the
environment and delivers a range of programs.
A group of senior students at Gilles Plains Primary School
recently shared their ideas about what ‘Peace Is Personal’
means to them. They drew a representation of what came
to mind when they thought about the concept of personal
peace. A collation of their ideas will combine to produce
two original artworks for the Peace is Personal exhibition.
The exhibition is open to schools and emerging and
established artists across all disciplines. If you are interested
in exhibiting artwork please confirm your interest by Friday
29 April 2016. Application forms can be downloaded from
www.portenf.sa.gov.auThe 2016 Reconciliation Week ‘Peace is Personal’
Exhibition will be held from Thursday 26 May until
Wednesday 8 June 2016 at Black Diamond Gallery,
66 Commercial Road, Port Adelaide.
