Plenty of payment options
There are six options by which Council rates
can be paid, either in full or in four quarterly
instalments in September, December, March and
June each year:
• By internet through Council’s website
;
• By telephone, via your participating bank;
• B-PAY;
• Australia Post 13 18 16 (by phone or at your
local Aust Post outlet);
• By mail; or
• In person at Council service centres.
Full payment options are detailed on your rates
notice and accounts will be sent at least 30 days
before each instalment falls due. Ratepayers who
are in arrears are encouraged to get in touch with
the Council to arrange a flexible approach to debt
recovery, and often payment arrangements can
be negotiated.
Any rate instalment that is not paid on or before
the due date is regarded as being in arrears and
a fine of 2% of the amount of the instalment
is payable. A further penalty at the prescribed
interest rate is added to any unpaid rates each
month they continue to be unpaid.
To help alert residents about unpaid rates,
Council issues a Notice of Overdue Rates after
the instalment is due and remains unpaid.
Any resident who has concerns regarding rates
payments should not hesitate to contact
Council’s finance department to have their
questions answered.
If Council does not receive a response to the
quarterly rate notices, notice of overdue rates and
other communications, the matter will be placed
in the hands of Council’s debt collection agency
which may lead to court action to recover the
debt, which will lead to additional costs.
Any ratepayer who is experiencing difficulty
in meeting the due dates of payment should
contact Council on 8405 6600 to discuss a possible
alternative payment arrangement. All such
arrangements are strictly confidential.
The City of Port Adelaide Enfield ensures that
each ratepayer is treated equally and will always
try to work with ratepayers to resolve rates arrears
within Council guidelines and procedures. Please
see the reverse side of your rates notice for
alternative payment options.

All the facts and figures
If you want to know more about our city you can now
do so through the City of Port Adelaide Enfield website.
Its Community ID profile pages provide the population
characteristics of your community, show how communities
are changing over time, and enable comparison with other
areas in South Australia and around Australia.
The city profile uses facts and figures from the Australian
Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census of Population and Housing
in 2011, 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 for each local
government area, and for smaller areas such as suburbs.
This information is presented in easy to use tables, charts
and commentary covering a wide range of Census questions.
It may be especially useful for high school and university
students who are researching demographics and population
trends for social profiles or urban planning, but there is also
information about suburb boundaries and the meaning of the
names of suburbs.
Community groups and clubs will also find the information
valuable, especially those that need information about local
populations for funding and grant applications.
The figures, which were updated in February, show that
the on the night of the 2011 Census the population of the
City of Port Adelaide Enfield was 112,812, living in 50,
388 dwellings with an average household size of 2.4.
Because it is updated regularly, Council staff use this data
to help stay informed about changes across the city, and
to help with decisions about new services and needs. Start
exploring the profile information via Council’s website at
