Problem intersection
upgrade update
The intersection of North East Road and Sudholz Road
is one of the busiest in the Adelaide metropolitan area
with 73,000 vehicles passing through it every day.
Two shopping centres, the Holden Hill Police Station
and Windsor Gardens High School are also located
in close proximity.
However, the intersection has a poor safety record with
35 casualty crashes and one fatality occurring in the
five year period 2007-2012. Thirteen additional casualty
crashes occurred at the intersection of Blacks Road and
North East Road.
The Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure
(DPTI) recently developed a proposal to improve road
safety at the intersection by re-directing traffic movements
to other roads.
The concept included:
• The removal of right turn lanes from North East Road
onto Sudholz Road to improve traffic flows and
reduce long queues on North East Road
• A new signalised intersection at the junction of
Sudholz Road and Blacks Road to provide right turn
movements to Sudholz Road
• Duplicated right turn lanes for drivers turning onto
North East Road from Sudholz Road with 24 hour
green arrows (at present there are no green arrows
7am to 9am and 4pm to 7pm)
• The closure of the median on North East Road
at Blacks Road to remove hazardous right turns
in and out
In response to feedback received from residents and
businesses, at its October meeting Council resolved to
advise DPTI that Council opposes this project due to the
additional traffic that would be generated on Council-
owned roads and the potential loss of trade for
local businesses.
Council will continue to work with DPTI to reach a
solution that works best for road users, residents and
businesses. For more information on the proposal and
status of this project visit
Loving a new life in Largs
One of Largs Bay’s newest residents, Jenny Thompson,
says she wouldn’t live anywhere else. After renting in
Osborne, Jenny, who was born in England and became
an Australian citizen in April 2012, recently became the
proud owner of home in Largs Bay.
As a keen hockey player, cyclist and swimmer, Jenny
says the proximity of her home to the beach and coastal
walking and exercise trail means she has a great place
to exercise all year round. The nearby train lines and the
availability of local services also help make Largs the
ideal place for her to live.
An important part of purchasing a new home in the
Port Adelaide Enfield Council area, or moving out of a
property in the Council area, is making sure that your
contact details are up to date. This ensures that your rates
and animal notices are received at the correct address.
In some cases, your conveyancer updates your records
on your behalf, however some conveyancers do not offer
this service so it pays to double check your details with
Council. The onus is on you to ensure that Council has
your correct details for the sending of notices and if you
need to update your details, this can be done quickly and
easily at Council’s website.
Options for rates payment
Your annual rates notices can be paid in full by the first
instalment due date, or in four quarterly instalments,
and there is a variety of payment options to allow for the
timely payment of rates. Late fees are applied to overdue
rates. If you are experiencing difficulty in meeting the
payment dates for your rates, please contact Council on
8405 6600 to discuss payment options. Council can also
provide new residents with information and resources, so
one of the best ways to learn more about your Council
and local area is to visit Council’s website.
