Grants for Junior Sport
Council’s Junior Sports Grants program can provide up to
$750 once a year to support sporting clubs and groups in
providing structured sporting activities for young people
aged up to 18 years. Eligible applicants can apply for
assistance with the purchase of sports uniforms and/or
equipment.
Following a review of this program this year applications
to the Junior Sports Grants Program are now accepted all
year round and processed as they are received. Intending
applicants need to allow about four weeks for processing
applications and must be advised of the success of their
application before purchasing any items. Junior Sports
Grants are not retrospective.
Eligible organisations that facilitate separate junior sporting
programs, for example football in the winter and cricket
in the summer, may apply each year for assistance for
both sports.
For assistance with grant enquiries, further information
or completing application forms please contact Council’s
Grants & Events Officer on 8405 6882 or email marissa.
Guidelines and application forms can be obtained from the
Civic Centre in Port Adelaide, the Enfield and Greenacres

Sharing the paths
Summer is a great time of year to get out and about in the
parks and trails around our City. It is important to be aware
that in the case of shared paths, all users need to be aware
of certain rules and to take care.
When travelling on a shared path:
• all users should keep left
• don’t stop on the path, move aside if possible to let
others through
• cyclists must warn when passing with their bell or by
calling out “passing”
• dogs must be under effective control, and
• cyclists must look ahead and take care because others
may not expect or hear you coming
Following these simple rules will allow everyone to share
the paths and trails.
Brass band wins
recognition
Enfield Brass, which celebrates its 55th birthday
next year, is a community band that rehearses at
the recently refurbished Klemzig Community Hall
at 242 North East Road, Klemzig and performs at
community events, concerts and parades.
Musical Director Peter Smith, who started with
the band in May this year, recently led the 33
performer group to win the Open C Brass Band
category of the 2014 State Band Championships,
providing great recognition for this talented local
group.
The band also won Best C Grade Band in the Street
March. The band is well known for its marching
skills and was back to back marching champions at
the 2011 and 2012 National Band Championships,
where they competed against bands from across
Australia. Drum Major Phil Benger was awarded
the Jim Brill Trophy for Best Drum Major.
Enfield Brass is a regular fixture at many pageants
including the Credit Union Christmas Pageant and
the Port Adelaide Twilight Parade. The band has an
ongoing schedule of performances that included
a Halloween Ball in late October, and is involved
in a number of Christmas pageants across the
metropolitan area.
Several other groups are associated with the band,
including the Youth Band, which enables budding
musicians aged 8 -18 to learn a brass instrument
or percussion from a team of qualified musical
educators. However, the opportunity to learn is
not limited to youth, with many members being
new to brass and being tutored by band members.
The Oompah Band, with its traditional German
repertoire, delights audiences at events such as
the Schützenfest.
Keep an eye on
for
details. Musicians interested in getting involved
are invited to contact band secretary Kim Sparks
on 0466 963 244.
