wetlands habitat to the neighboring
busy highways. The wetlands are
a birdwatcher’s delight with more

migrates from far away Siberia. The
wetlands are also home to fish,
amphibians, crustaceans, reptiles,
mammals and insects.
The free guided sunset tours will
take place from 6-8pm on Friday 12
December and 9 January. Bookings
are essential on 8405 6560 and the
tour commences at the Barker
Inlet Wetlands viewing platform,
Salisbury Highway
(northern side), Wingfield.
Kids Port Walks
Kids can now lead the way for
family fun exploring the Port
Adelaide State Heritage Area.
Designed for eight to 12 year
olds, the Kids Port Walks are an
interactive way to investigate one
of Port Adelaide’s most
interesting districts.
Equipped with backpacks
containing photo trail guides,
compasses, binoculars and
activities to do during the walk,
families can enjoy a walk at their
own pace while discovering the
features of the old Port.
The activities, which range from
simple to complex, include:
• using a compass to find in
which direction six buildings
are located
• using binoculars to find items
at the waterfront that start with
each letter of the alphabet
• collecting a ‘rubbing’ of
interesting wooden paver
patterns from the walking trail
• using a magnifying glass to
look for small details on a
heritage building
The Kids Port Walks backpacks are
available all year round from the
Port Adelaide Visitor Information
Centre which is open daily from
9am to 5pm. Photo ID is required
as a deposit to hire the backpacks.
Contact the Centre on 8405 6560
for further details.
